The American Health Care Association has announced that it will have a Hawaiian theme for this year’s National Nursing Home Week May 11th through the 17th. Gold Crest Care Center of New York City is participating in the week-long celebration with Hawaiian themed activities throughout the week.
Amidst tree-lined streets of the pleasant Pelham Gardens area of the Bronx, in an area with beautiful private homes sits the Gold Crest Care Center. The care center is like many nursing home facilities across the nation, with its dedicated staff reporting daily to take care of the residents of its 175 bed skilled nursing facility.
With the exception of those employees, residents and their families, Gold Crest Care Center goes largely unnoticed throughout the year, not unlike similar facilities across the country. But for one week each year, those intimately involved in this particular nursing home and homes like it across the United States participate in National Nursing Home Week. This year’s observance, May 11th through the 17th, takes on a Hawaiian theme as selected by The American Health Care Association (AHCA). “Living the Aloha Spirit” is a theme designed to inspire kindness, unity, truthfulness, humility and patience, qualities that are present each day in nursing facilities throughout America.
Gold Crest Care Center’s Mark Salamon puts the week in perspective. “Every day those of us in the industry are charged with caring for the loved ones of others. It is a noble cause that, at times, can be stressful. This one week each year lets us celebrate our patients and our own efforts in taking the best possible care of them”.
Everyone is invited to participate in National Nursing Home Week by visiting or volunteering at any nursing home in the New York area. People are also encouraged to show support of nursing home NYC employees during National Nursing Home Week.About Gold Crest Care Center: Gold Crest Care Center is a 175 bed nursing facility located at 2316 Bruner Avenue in the Bronx, New York.
